Research
Interests:
My research represents an effort to make use of tools from probability
theory, the theory of partial differential equations, and numerical
analysis, to analyze interesting physical phenomena and to design, analyze,
and apply new computational techniques to study challenging problems arising in
the physical sciences and engineering. Theoretical and computational
statistical mechanics are recurring themes in my work. Current application areas of interest
include the dynamics of crystal surfaces, weather prediction, and simulation
problems in molecular science.
Recent
History:
I am currently an assistant professor in the mathematics department at the
University of Chicago. Previously, as a Courant Instructor at NYU, I collaborated
with Jonathan Goodman, Bob Kohn, and Eric Vanden-Eijnden.
Before moving to New York I was a PhD student of Alexandre Chorin in the Department of Mathematics at the
University of California at Berkeley.
