Report on game 2 -- April 27th

Todd Rowland, the Void

Chicago(Void)--4/28--

On Sunday the most amazing thing happened. The refs called the handballs, the ground was firm, and the Void triumphed over the Law Schoolers, 3Ls Revenge. It was a soccer game that will go down in the history books, remembered as a day of infamy.

Despite the fact that the 3Ls were heavily favored to win, I knew before the game that the Void was going to have a good game. The reason was that Anders Buch told me the following joke before the game.

There is a lawyer, an American, a Russian, and a Cuban in a small airplane. The Russian pulls out his bottle of vodka, and brags, `In my country we have so much vodka that we use it to water the crops. We have so much it can just throw away some without any loss.' To prove his point, he throws his unfinished bottle out the window. Everyone is impressed.

The Cuban then pulls out a Havana cigar, puffs on it for a bit, then tells everyone, `In Cuba, these cigars are so plentiful we can have one anytime we want.' Following the Russian's lead, he tosses his cigar out the window.

Then the American picks up the lawyer and tosses him out the window.

The Void scored early, Anders Buch tapping in a cross from Romyar Sharifi. The 3Ls goalie never had a chance.

The goal shocked 3Ls, and they came out attacking, but couldn't break through the Void defence. They kept muttering to themselves, `this is the void.'

Even so, they got off some shots, but for the most part they were off net. The void did not make many threats, with one notable exception. The Void defender Carl Kirkebo had the ball in his own end of the field, and he did not have any law coverage. He settled the ball, and then kicked it very hard. A nice lob towards the other side, but the 3Ls goalie was able to handle it.

After the halftime, the void scored again, this time a Void corner kick bounced through the defenders to Joe Chuang. He didn't have any law coverage either. Joe settled the ball and lobbed it into the near-upper corner of the goal. The 3Ls Revenge goalie didn't have a chance.

The 3Ls were a little demoralized until they scored halfway through the second half. Brian Luense , the Void goalie, --even with the help of the Void defender Ramesh Shreekantan who was at home watching TV-- didn't have a chance. The 3Ls Revenge tried to score again, but the Void defence held firm.

The Void had a better turnout for this game, with four subs. Brian Luense played goalie. Tom Haines debuted at center defence. The other players were Todd Rowland, Joe Chuang, Carl Kirkebo, Anders Buch, Romyar Sharifi, Tom Hayes, Josh Mayer, Matt Frank, and Mikhail Belkin.

With this game, the Void's record is 1-1-0.
