Midterm test date Thursday May 4
Final Examination Thursday June 8, 10:30–12:30
It is the policy of the Department of Mathematics that the following rules
apply to final exams in all undergraduate mathematics courses:
1.The final exam must occur at the time and place designated on the College
Final Exam Schedule. In particular, NO final examinations may be given
during the tenth week of the quarter, except in the case of graduating seniors.
2.Any student who wishes to depart from the scheduled final exam time for
the course must receive permission from Paul Sally (office is Ry 350, phone
is 2-7388, email is sally@math.uchicago.edu). Instructors are not permitted
to excuse students from the scheduled time of the final exam except in the
cases of an Incomplete.
Homework
Homework is to be turned in on the given date at the beginning of the class.
I'm expecting to set four sets of homework.
You are encouraged to work in groups but you should write your work up individually.
As long as you understand everything you write down, it doesn't matter how
you reached that understanding.
Here is how the various components will be weighted:
Homework 25%
Midterm 25%
Final exam 50%
However, if the grade for your final exam is better than your weighted average,
I will use this as your final grade instead. This does not mean you
can skip the midterm. You must sit the midterm and hand in every homework
set to get a grade.
NB If the grade for your {homework + midterm} is better than your weighted
average, I will use this as your final grade. In this sense the final
is optional.
Graduating seniors should talk to me to discuss how their grade will be assigned.
