The Department of Mathematics benefits from the support of alumni and
friends in many different ways. Many contribute their time, energy
and accumulated wisdom by advising prospective students about what
being a student at the University of Chicago is like, and advising
current students about what life away from the University of Chicago
is like. Others contribute to the health of the department through their
contributions to mathematical research and education, or to development
of applications of mathematics; these enrich the
mathematical community in general, and the Department in particular.
And of course, other friends contribute financially, helping to make much of
